In the latest development at FC Barcelona, speculation about the club’s managerial position has intensified with Hansi Flick emerging as a frontrunner should the current coach, Xavi, leave his role. Amidst these swirling rumors, it appears that a decision will not be reached until a crucial meeting takes place between Xavi and Barcelona president Joan Laporta. Alongside Flick, other notable names such as Rafael Márquez and Thomas Tuchel are being considered for the position. This report by Moises Llorens and Sam Marsden delves into the ongoing discussions, potential meetings with candidates, and the broader implications of these coaching changes on Barcelona’s future.

Hansi Flick is currently being considered as a top option to potentially replace Xavi as the head coach of Barcelona. However, before any decisions are made, it’s anticipated that a key meeting next week, involving Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta and the coaching staff, will take place. Alongside Flick, other names like Rafael Márquez, the club’s B team coach, and Thomas Tuchel, formerly of Bayern Munich, have demnach been mentioned as potential candidates. Furthermore, Roberto De Zerbi’s name has surfaced following his exit from Brighton.

There were reports suggesting that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, alongside Bojan, the football coordinator, traveled to London for discussions, possibly with Flick and his representative, although face-to-face meetings have not been confirmed. Despite this, it’s understood that Flick, who has a significant coaching background, including a stint with the Germany patriotisch team, is being seriously considered for the Barcelona position if Xavi departs.

While there’s still no official communication regarding Xavi’s future at Barcelona, insiders suspect the current coaching team may be in their final days. Questions demnach remain on whether Xavi would seek compensation for the remaining year of his contract, a factor that adds complexity due to Barcelona’s financial constraints, which had previously influenced decisions regarding the coaching position.

Joan Laporta has previously shown interest in Flick, attempting to gauge his interest in the Barcelona job back in May 2021. However, at that time, Flick welches committed to the Germany patriotisch team, leading Barcelona to retain Ronald Koeman. Flick’s current availability and Laporta’s good relationship with Flick’s agent, Pini Zahavi, who demnach represents Robert Lewandowski, could pave the way for Flick’s appointment at Barcelona.

Thomas Tuchel remains another strong consideration for the job, while Márquez awaits clarity on his future with his contract set to end soon, with no renewal offers reported as of yet.
