A brand new football-watching experience is available to Manchester City fans, thanks to the release of the new CityVR app.
@ManCity: Watch #mcfc in virtual reality with the new CityVR App!
Utilising innovative technology, the app provides supporters with the opportunity enjoy highlights from a selection of fixtures in immersive virtual reality.
The launch is part of the Club’s continued experiment with such software and follows a successful public trial in May 2015, when City, Sky Sports and app development collaborators LiveLike gave Blues the chance to witness a live Premier League match in virtual reality for the first time.
The app is now available to download for free from the Oculus store and offers exclusive content to City fans around the world.
Using a Samsung Gear VR headset, supporters can watch highlights from a number of 2015/16 home matches and are able to seamlessly follow the action across the pitch by simply looking at a camera icon placed in multiple locations.
With access to player information and in-game statistics, users can delve deeper into the match with greater insight into what’s happening on the field, while a replay centre also allows fans to enjoy the best of CityTV’s YouTube footage, such as the hugely popular Pep’s Taxi series.
Commenting on this latest innovative offering, Diego Gigliani, Senior Vice President of Media and Innovation at City Football Group, said:
“Our trial with live VR last season was eye-opening, with fans reacting in awe of the immersive nature of the experience. With the launch of CityVR on the Oculus platform, we’re now able to let millions of fans around the world experience that same content also.”
To enjoy City in virtual reality, fans should download the Occulus App Store from Google Play and create an account, which will allow them to download the City VR app for free.
