Singapore Media Festival to feature VR Animated Series

#VR cartoon Dream Defenders Virtual Reality to feature as part of #Singapore Media Festival:

  • The Singapore Media Festival has announced its theme will be ‘Celebrating Asian Storytelling’ and will feature a special virtual reality (VR) production of CG animated cartoon Dream Defenders which is produced by Singapore animation studio Tiny Island Productions.
  • The VR version of Dream Defenders will feature as part of the Singapore Spotlight, which has over 200 hours of film and television content available for attendees.
  • The attendees who have the opportunity to try Dream Defenders Virtual Reality will be able to run, shoot and fly within the universe of the series, alongside fans from all over the world.
  • The festival is also see the introduction of the ‘Country-of-Focus’ programme, which is designed to highlight the stories and talents of one particular country of the Asian region.
  • Mr Robert Gilby, Chairman of the Singapore Media Festival Advisory Board and Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company (SEA), said in a statement: “Introducing a Country-of-Focus programme is all about creating a bold platform to showcase the quality and variety of creativity originating from that country, and affirming its strong community of creators who continue to push boundaries and explore more collaborations between the country, Singapore and the rest of the world,” He added, “Southeast Asia is a region rich in potential for great storytellers, and we see the importance of amplifying these voices on the global stage.

The Singapore Media Festival has announced its theme will be ‘Celebrating Asian Storytelling’ and will feature a special virtual reality (VR) production of CG animated cartoon Dream Defenders which is produced by Singapore animation studio Tiny Island Productions.

The VR version of Dream Defenders will feature as part of the Singapore Spotlight, which has over 200 hours of film and television content available for attendees. Dream Defenders Virtual Reality is part of the Exciting Formats and Genres showcase, alongside infotainment series Food Of Life. The attendees who have the opportunity to try Dream Defenders Virtual Reality will be able to run, shoot and fly within the universe of the series, alongside fans from all over the world.

Dream Defenders has been running since 2011 on 3net, a pioneering 3D channel that was set up as a joint venture between Discovery Communications, Sony and IMAX Corporation. Dream Defenders was one of the channels first stereoscopic 3D animated series. It has since been picked up for airing in more than 60 countries worldwide. In 2012, it won an award for Best 3D Animated Program at the Asian Television Awards.

The festival is also see the introduction of the ‘Country-of-Focus’ programme, which is designed to highlight the stories and talents of one particular country of the Asian region. This year, the Country of Focus will be Indonesia.

Singapore and Indonesia commemorate 50 years of bilateral and diplomatic relations in 2017, and in recent years Indonesia has proven to be a vibrant source of great content, talent and stories. It is timely that SMF marks its first Country-of-Focus with Indonesia.”
