Valve just released a suite of virtual reality world-building tools for free:

  • “Content creators will be able to use the Source 2 game engine, the same engine that Valve uses to create its own games and experiences, to create and share their own worlds with the VR community using the Destinations Workshop,” said Valve, writing on Steam.
  • Valve releasing free virtual reality world-builder, Destinations
  • The Destinations workshop will include the Source 2 tool set used internally at Valve, various example Destinations created with photogrammetry, and a sample map that creators will be able to copy and modify as they learn how to use the software.
  • Valve will today release a free virtual reality content creation package that lets budding VR creators build and share “real and imaginary” worlds on the Steam Workshop.
  • The toolkit will is available through Early Access in beta form in roughly three hours time (at the time of writing), and will continue to be free once it leaves Early Access.
