    About Bernie Roehl

    Bernie Roehl began work in the field of VR back in the early 1990s.

  • With the recent resurgence of VR, Roehl has had the opportunity to work on numerous exciting projects, including the LindorMelt VR Experience for Lindt Chocolates, ImmerView, a 360 degree stereoscopic image viewer for both photographic and pre-rendered content on Google Cardboard; the UNICEF360 viewer for IdeaStudio and Unicef Canada; and a small room-escape game for the Gear VR and HTC Vive.

Kick off May with special guest speaker Bernie Roehl as he presents “Social VR and Virtual Theatre” to DMG! Bernie is a Senior Software Developer for VR and also has a background in theater. His presentation will give great advice on implementing theater principles to aid in creating immersive social VR experiences!

JOIN US FOR FRIENDSHIP AND SNACKS <3 Bernie Roehl began work in the field of VR back in the early 1990s. Working with a student at the University of Waterloo, he created the world’s first open-source VR library. Roehl was active in the early development of VRML, and was the chair of the 1998 VRML Conference. He contributed to the development of the VRML standard, and co-created the VRML Humanoid Animation specification. He also created Canada’s first college program in virtual reality for New Brunswick Community College, Miramichi and co-developed 3DNA, the world’s first true virtual desktop software. With the recent resurgence of VR, Roehl has had the opportunity to work on numerous exciting projects, including the LindorMelt VR Experience for Lindt Chocolates, ImmerView, a 360 degree stereoscopic image viewer for both photographic and pre-rendered content on Google Cardboard; the UNICEF360 viewer for IdeaStudio and Unicef Canada; and a small room-escape game for the Gear VR and HTC Vive. He’s currently working on developing a framework for multi-user VR experiences that can be adapted to a variety of different types of applications. Interested in joining DMG? Dues are $10 per month.
