Eight new sensations are splashing into SeaWorld next year. Topping the list: Kraken 2.0.

The revamped roller coaster is the first to feature a virtual-reality experience in Florida. The move is part of SeaWorld Entertainment spending $175 million on new attractions.

From a new bar and a food festival to an enhanced Christmas experience, most of the money will be invested in Orlando.

“Orlando is the number one tourist destination in the world, and we want to take advantage of that,” said Brian Morrow, vice president of theme park design at SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment.

The increase in activity comes during a tumultuous time for the theme park.

In the past six months, SeaWorld Entertainment has seen a more than 33 percent drop in stock prices. That, coupled with the continual backlash from killer whale shows, means the company is twisting and turning to succeed in the competitive amusement park marketplace.

“The message is really clear: SeaWorld is continuing to Invest in Central Florida, as we grow the business here and we give guests new experiences,” Morrow said.

Among the other additions are:

Dolphin Nursery: Guests will be able to get up close to mother and baby dolphins in all new ways. Windows will offer up-close viewing at multiple levels, giving children a face-to-face view of dolphin calves. New digital displays will allow educators to share information on dolphin behavior, biology and conservation with guests through interactive video.

Seven Seas Festival: The park’s music and food events will expand to 14 weekends in 2017, featuring new culinary offerings inspired by street foods from Asia, the Caribbean, South America and the Mediterranean.

Electric Ocean: A brand new, end-of-the-day event will offer guests a different kind of fun after dark, immersing them in a glowing sea of wonder.
