@TonyClarkCP: NEW blog entry on #IronDragonVR:
When it comes to Cedar Point, one day is never enough. How will you spend your days? We have a few ideas, but the possibilities are endless!
Located just steps away from Cedar Point, Hotel Breakers is the perfect place to stay after a perfect, jam-packed day of thrills at the park. Rest up! There’s more than one day of fun here.
Enjoy the perks of Platinum – unlimited admission, free parking, early entry, exclusive ride nights, and special discounts on food, merchandise and more! There’s no better way to experience everything Cedar Point has to offer.
First and foremost, Cedar Point is about fun. Fun for everyone! Here’s all you need to know about navigating the park and making the most of your day.
You’re probably skeptical. I was at first. I had heard all the hype about adding virtual reality headsets to rides and thought, “isn’t the actual ride thrilling enough?”
The short answer is, “yes, but…”
We’re going to talk about Iron Dragon: VR in particular, because that’s what we’re opening on June 9. Iron Dragon by itself is a great family coaster. Swinging and swaying with great drops, turns and two lift hills. It’s like double the ride!
To do great virtual reality on a coaster, the ride has to have smooth transitions and no unexpected jolts or turns. Iron Dragon was the perfect candidate to test this late last summer. And guests loved it. I have to think they were skeptical, too!
But we’re extremely conscious of providing a great guest experience. So what does that mean? Instead of running Iron Dragon: VR all the time, we’re going to split each operating day. Kind of “half and half,” if you will.
During the day, you’ll be able to experience Iron Dragon like you normally would, no virtual reality headset and no additional tech (we know Iron Dragon is a great transition coaster for little thrill seekers looking to progress to the next level of coaster).
Then at 6 p.m. each night (when the park closes at 10 or later), we’ll start Iron Dragon: VR. You’ll simply enter the queue like you normally would and we’ll explain the VR headset process as you get closer to boarding.
Iron Dragon: VR will be offered June 9 – September 4. Riders must be 48” tall to ride Iron Dragon, and to experience Iron Dragon: VR, they must also be 13 and older (this is a headset manufacturer requirement).
So what happens in the headsets? I don’t want to give away the entire story, but let’s just say that you’re on a wagon and you’re carrying something very, very important on it. So important, that everyone wants it – villagers, ogres and other characters. They’re going to stop at nothing to get the goods from you.
Of course, there’s some flying in there, too – and the sensation is pretty mind-blowing.
Iron Dragon: VR doesn’t replace the traditional coaster experience; it enhances it. The good news is, whether you’re just looking to move on to the next level of coaster riding or you want to try the latest in tech with the VR headset, we’re providing both of those choices for you.
And it’s reason #56 why you should own a 2017 Platinum Season Pass. Come early for Iron Dragon, or come back again to see the little surprises you may have missed while riding Iron Dragon: VR!
