Dassault Systemes and DS Automobiles, both part of the Dassault Group, have introduced the Virtual Garage, a type of immersive virtual reality (VR) experience for its vehicles using its 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

DS Automobiles is using the Virtual Garage to showcase the DS 7 Crossback range of SUVs at the Geneva International Motor Show. Attendees can get to grips with the DS 7 Crossback La Première by donning a HTC Vive headset, which will allow the company to explore both the interior and exterior of the car. The VR version will be alongside the real-life car, allowing for a direct comparison.

After the motor show, DS Automobiles will roll out the virtual garage technology to its network of showrooms across Europe, allowing customers to choose and configure their car in VR, allowing them to pick options such as colour, trim and equipment.

“Effective vehicle sales and marketing help complete a circle that first began with ideation and design,” said Olivier Sappin, Vice President, Transportation & Mobility Industry, Dassault Systèmes. “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform lets automotive brands differentiate themselves and reinvent the event and showroom experiences by infusing gamification, virtual reality, interaction and discovery, as well as real-time consumer tastes and preferences, into the discovery and purchase processes, even before a vehicle is physically available.”

The Dassault Group has engaged with VR technologies before, such as using VR headsets combined with CAD drawings to aid new aircraft mechanics in learning how to maintain the Dassault Aviation line of business jets.
