Over the years, the ticket packages for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival have become a fun unboxing surprise, with snapshots filling Instagram long before fans flood their social media streams with selfies from the festival itself.

Artwork, miniature pop-up scenes of the Empire Polo Club in Indio and calendars have been inside the boxes, along with Coachella’s coveted entry wristbands, in recent years.

In 2016, the festival upped the ante by including a virtual reality headset in the box. The cardboard headsets worked with the Coachella VR mobile app from virtual reality event team Vantage.tv. Using the headset and your phone, you could explore the grounds, the art, the food and even some of the stages of Coachella. The second weekend, some performances were broadcast over YouTube 360, including Run the Jewels and Guns ‘N’ Roses.

This year, Coachella is going bigger, not only offering virtual reality content, but also augmented reality features inside the Coachella VR app, according to a press release from Goldenvoice.

Vantage.tv and software platform CameraIQ have teamed up for the app.

Before the festival, ticket holders can check out the Coachella Valley landscape within the app and at the event, there will be “Easter eggs”–hidden virtual surprises and features–for those using the app.
