Tabel is an allegory about climate change and the chaotic nature of society’s approach to this growing problem. There are 6 storylines, enacted simultaneously, each representing different human factions that contribute to climate change.

Tonight is a very special night. You, the viewer, are lucky enough to have found a last minute seat at Tabel, one of the most exclusive farm-to-table restaurants around. Unfortunately, Tabel has serious problems happening in it’s kitchen, and the waiter is exceptional at hiding these problems. The influential patrons of the restaurant are slowly catching on to the pending catastrophe that is so obviously escalating around them, but will anyone take action to save the restaurant and themselves?

Tabel is an experiment in VR storytelling that provides the viewer a delectable balance between an interactive and a passive viewing experience. The film uses 6 channels of high fidelity 360 directional audio that enables the viewer to hear different audio experiences based on their own point-of-view. A custom video player was built to enable the user to interact with specific audio channels letting the viewer hear only what they are looking at.

This project is an experiment in VR and 360 storytelling made by Google as part of the latest series of Art, Copy & Code projects. Art, Copy & Code is a Google initiative that explores ways to fuse creative ideas with new technologies to showcase unique and impactful storytelling possibilities in digital mediums.

The Tabel VR experience is meant to showcase how VR technology is not only an exciting creative canvas for filmmaking, but also a largely unexplored and technologically advanced method for creating impactful and immersive experiences.
